American Roaches



Full-grown American roaches can be up to 3 inches long! They move quickly and carry germs. They also reproduce fast, so getting rid of them in a hurry is essential. Since they tend to live in small cracks and crevices, it can be hard to know the extent of your problem. It can also be hard

WHAT DO THEY LOOK LIKE?

American Roaches are easy to identify by their coloration. They are brownish-red. Adults feature a band of yellow behind the head. These roaches can fly due to the design of their wings. The wings don’t develop though until they are mature adults.

WHAT PROBLEMS DO THEY CREATE?

American roaches reproduce rapidly. The females seek dark, humid locations to place their eggs. The eggs are in a protective casing Each one has about 16 eggs inside of it. It takes about 5 months for the new roaches to become adults themselves and have the ability to mate.

They can create damage inside of a home and spread germs. They are filthy, and they can quickly contaminate food, dishes, and other items within a kitchen setting. Individuals with allergies or asthma may experience worsening symptoms with American roaches in the home. Some of the organisms they carry can cause a person to have flu-like symptoms.

It isn’t uncommon for them to reside within sewer systems in most cities. They tend to live outside but may venture into a structure to find food and water. They can get into a home if doors or windows are left open. They can also squeeze under openings if the weather stripping isn’t securely in place.

They tend to find their way into the kitchen of a home because of the access to food and water. They may be in a basement area due to the damp conditions if they can find a food source. They don’t need much for food and will consume just about anything. This includes:

· Algae

· Fungi

· Leaves

· Left out food or crumbs

· Pet food

· Wood particles

HOW TO GET RID OF THEM

If you see an American roach in your home, it is going to scurry away to a dark safe place. Swift action to get rid of them can prevent an infestation. Hiring an expert to locate them and eliminate them is recommended. Remember, it isn’t just the roaches that have to be destroyed. The expert can search the structure for any protective casings that hold eggs in them.
